Tape, machine weft, genius weft — three extension systems that clients ask for by name, three different price points, and three different conversations at the consultation chair. If you are deciding what to stock first (or adding a second wholesale line), this is the practical comparison: how each system installs, how long it lasts, which clients it suits, and how it behaves in your inventory.
Tape-in hair extensions are thin pre-taped wefts (skin or PU base) sandwiched in a client's hair — normal tape or the stronger injected tape version. No heat, no tools, fastest application.
Machine weft is the classic sew-in: a machine-sewn weft 3–5mm thick, sewn onto braided rows with needle and thread. The most durable, most economical system for volume work.
Genius (hand-tied) weft is knotted by artisans at roughly 1mm thick — no stitch line, no bulk — installed with the sew-in bead method. The invisible, premium option.

Tape-in wins on chair time. There is no heat and no sewing, so a full install moves quickly and clients with fine hair love how flat the panels sit. For salons, the inventory decision is normal tape versus injected tape: injected has a 30–40% stronger bond and carries 8–12 weeks per install, which suits clients who stretch their re-taping appointments. Most salons stock both and let the client's budget and maintenance rhythm decide.
Machine weft is the workhorse. The double-reinforced seam takes 5–8 reinstallations, it produces the fullest volume, and per gram it is the most economical system you can offer — the natural choice for thick hair, bridal volume and clients who re-install on a long cycle. If a salon stocks only one weft, it is usually this one.
At ~1mm, Genius Weft disappears against the scalp — no stitch line, no bulk, and the bead method means zero glue and zero heat. It is the system premium clients compare to their own natural hair. The trade-off is that hand-tied production costs more than machine sewing, so it sits at the top of your menu — a perfect upsell for clients who loved tape-in but want a longer wear cycle.
A practical starter mix: every system you offer in your two most-requested shades (most salons open with 1B and #2), plus two or three blondes based on what your clients ask for. Because shades can be mixed within one order, your first wholesale order does not have to be huge — it has to be accurate. Add fashion shades after you see real demand, not before.
All three systems are 100% Remy human hair, 100g per pack, in 50 stock shades and 16–26 inch lengths (tape also runs up to 30 inch). MOQ is 5 packs per shade on every line, colors mix freely in one order, and free samples are available before you stock up. Quality control runs a 7-step pipeline on every batch — the weft you reorder next quarter matches the one you install this week.
